This weekend, the Titan Racing Team took on the King and Queen of Crit hosted by Major Motion in Long Beach, CA. The highlight for the team was the 50+ Masters Race, which featured a stacked field of top riders ready to battle it out.
The Race Unfolds
From the very start, the race was action-packed with a flurry of attacks as the strongest riders tested each other’s limits. After about 20 minutes of intense racing, a breakaway of five riders formed, including Titan Racing teammates Phil Tinstman and Jon Nist. The break dangled just 10–15 seconds off the front of the pack for several laps while Titan’s National Champion, Randall Coxworth, expertly covered every attempt by the chasers to bring them back.
Once the field settled, the breakaway gained momentum and nearly lapped the pack. It was shaping up to be a dominant performance by Titan Racing until some confusion from the officials disrupted the flow of the race.
Questionable Calls from the Officials
In a surprising turn, the officials announced 10 laps to go for the field, only to change it to 2 laps to go on the very next lap. The breakaway, which should have been on its final lap, was instead told they had 4 laps to go, creating confusion for everyone on the course. Understandably, this raised questions among participants who had expected a full race experience. Let the race unfold even if the break laps the field.
Titan Racing Prevails
Despite the confusion, Titan Racing adapted and executed its race strategy flawlessly. During the final laps, Randall Coxworth broke away from the field and soloed in for an impressive 5th-place finish. Meanwhile, in the breakaway, Jon Nist launched a late attack, setting up Phil Tinstman for the win. Phil’s victory cemented Titan Racing’s dominance in the SoCal 50+ Masters category. 🏆
The Piru Time Trial remains the last standing monthly TT series in Southern California, and it continues to be a proving ground for racers looking to sharpen their form. The course runs along Highway 123 West, just south of Fillmore, featuring rolling hills, constant wind, and winding roads.
For Otto, this race served as the perfect tune-up for the upcoming Valley of the Sun Stage Race. He went all in and managed to take the win in the Masters 55+ category, with second and third place finishing 48 seconds behind. It was a solid performance, and what made it even better was that I was just three seconds off my personal record!
Takeaways from the Weekend
The team’s performance demonstrated resilience, strategy, and the depth of Titan Racing’s talent. Congratulations to Phil, Jon, Randall, and Otto for an incredible race weekend and for keeping the Titan Racing name at the top of the leaderboard.
Stay tuned for more updates as the 2025 season unfolds!
